Zero Waste Tips for the Kitchen

Kitchen is a great place to start your transition with easy zero waste swaps.

Tips

Takeaway cup/bottle

Never leave your place with your takeaway cup/bottle. Already filled with coffee or ready to be filled at your preferred coffee place on the way. Note that some shops in Stockholm have discounts if you bring your own mug (e.g. Pressbyran, Bröd och Salt)

Bulk groceries

A basic zero-waste routines: buy your groceries in bulk and with your own containers. This is not widely developed in Stockholm, but we hope this will change.

Reusable sponge

Did you know you could wash your sponge to increase its lifetime? Choose them in natural fibers to limit their ecological impact.

Dish brush

Brushes are very efficient for cleaning dishes. At end of life, swap your plastic one for a brush made from natural material and with removable head.

Homemade sponge

You can reuse textiles (old socks, t-shirts, left-over yarn) to make your own reusable sponge. Several video tutorials exist online.

Food wraps

Uses reusable food wrap to replace plastic and aluminium when you have leftovers. Reusable food wrap is often done with bee wax. You wash them with water and regular dish washing liquid. Don't use hot water on them, otherwise the wax would melt.

Coffee filter

Reusable coffee filter replaces paper filters. Clean them every few utilizations, it works with your regular laundry cleaning (dark colours).

Tea infuser

Teas bags are non-necessary and often not so healthy. Swap them with a reusable tea infuser and buy your tea in bulk.

Silicon baking "paper"

Silicon paper avoids using baking papers, and this is such an easy swap.

Silicon kitchen mold

Paper mold for cupcakes can be swapped with silicon mold.
